Draw and paint in the
Thangka Project Studio

20231022_130934_edited.jpg

All thangka paintings are based on the iconometric representation of the face and body of the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha. We can see on his face all buddhas and bodhisattvas, peaceful and wrathful deities. He looks at all sentient beings with compassionate eyes, hoping that everyone will realize their own Buddha nature. Depicting his face and body, we can be grateful to know his teachings in this life, to see and draw him in this form. The ancient tradition of thangka painting helps us connect to our true nature.

I'm Lili Besenyei, thangka painter, and I would like to show to you the meditative experience that can be experienced by drawing Buddhas and bodhisattvas.

My goal is to get to know to you the traditional Tibetan way of drawing and painting the buddhas so that you can paint after putting these basics in the right place.

Why should you dive into thangka painting?

  • you get to know yourself and your inner workings

  • you meet your original, true nature

  • art therapy effect - blocks are dissolved, traumas are processed, you get to know yourself

  • the direct experience of equanimity and joy

  • your meditative ability develops

  • you can observe your own state of consciousness

  • you can increase your concentration

  • helps with visualization exercises

  • your consciousness becomes more collected in everyday life

Painting Easels
"Drawing with you felt surprisingly homey. I was a little afraid of it, because neither patience nor discipline are among my strongest virtues, but I still enjoyed every moment of it!  The drawing is pure color meditation with gentle movements, a kind of pleasant energy flow - if you let it. It was good to hear several times that we shouldn't try to create perfection, it's OK to making mistakes. Meanwhile, you corrected the bigger mischiefs with charming relentlessness. I learned the most from these, from my mistakes. I was tired, but it was worth it, at the end, a touchingly kind face smiled back at me. Thank you and thank you, I will come again!"
